Default Happy new DMAX owner!

Have been lusting after the Duramax for the last couple of years and finally got one

I'm going to start off with an intake and a catback exhaust then will look for a programer when they come available.

Ok now what do you guys recommend for intakes? I see alot of suppliers that only carry AFE. Anyone use anything else ? How about the Outlaw?

What about exhaust? I see MBRP alot and Magnaflow. Magnaflow costs alot more. What about just replacing just the muffler with a free flowing muff? I don't plan on running it on the track just towing my toybox and maybe a light to light street race.

my boss has a MBRP on his powerstroke and it sounds awesome. it wasnt to pricey either. i would prob. go with the outlaw if you could get it or maybe volant if they make one. also for a programmer look at pacific performance engineering. they make some pretty bad programmers for the duramax trucks.

A friend has a K&N intake on his LLY. I'm not a fan of the open airbox. I'm thinking about just starting out by changing the stock filter for K&N filter in the stock box.
This is my first diesel and I have a lot to learn. How much of a breakin period does the Dmax need before getting a programmer?

I've decided to wait till more products are out for the LBZ. Seems like messing any with the exhaust will cause it to throw an egr code. Maybe by June or July I'll have learned more and will have more options.

I would look at 4" exhaust and a drop in filter. to my knowledge there hasn't been a programer for the 06 put out yet. Good luck

Use AFE for the intake. Pricey, but great quality. There Proguard7 filter is said to be better for filtering dirt than many others. I recommend Magnaflow on the exhaust, but I have also heard good things about MBRP. I don't think you will go wrong with either.

I've heard good things about the AFE Proguard and am thinking about getting one. The stock filter is supposed to be good and flow well so I'm going to keep reading and when I get a few more breakin miles on the truck I'll make up my mind.

I had a Magnaflow on my old 5.3 and liked it but wished it had a deeper sound to it. I'm leaning towards the MBRP 4" cat back. I'm reading about the Finger's stick code blocker and the egr codes changing the exhaust causes.

I really like the power the stock LBZ has but am really dissapointed with the fuel mileage it gets. So far 14.5 is the best I've seen and that is highway not towing. Hope it gets better.

The fuel mileage should get better once it gets some miles on it. Congrats on the new truck!
