Default Continuation of my oil thread.

How the fvck did I go from valve seals to needing new valves?

The original problem was oil useage. The new shop(original shop seems to have gone **** up)removed driver valve cover, called and said not only do I need seals and guides but new valves as well.
He said the push rods were worn down or were too short so the valves were resting on the locks(WTF?).

At this point do I pay $2400 for a fix, pay off to have it buttoned back up and spend the savings on oil?

Thanks

You can get a junkyard motor for less than that. When you swapped the cam did you check pushrod length?

I had houston hot rods(local to me)build it but now they're not answering the phone.
According to John at TSP new/longer pushrods are not required for a cam swap but they/TSP recommend hardened rods due to higher HP from a head swap. I'm running stock heads although my builder was always pushing me to do heads as well.
I'm going by the new shop(510 Performance)this morning and will give a report by lunch, I hope.

Thanks Isak.

I have seen and believe.
I have a cell phone pic I took but ive been trying to join photobucket so I can post pics but no luck so far.
The top of the valve, just above the spring and lock is gone on two. At that point they stopped and called me. I told them my main concern is getting the truck back on the road. I asked them about getting new heads instead of the machine shop time to fix these and they said they would look/call around and see what they could find.
When I got here he said they had a set of corvette take-offs(they mainly do vettes)and it would be cheaper than the worst case scenario they had originally allowed for in their quote.
Best part is I will be on he road by he weekend.

Thanks for all the help.

Isak, I think we will replace the pushrods since we will be there already.

Thanks.
