Default 85w gear oil

I have an 04 2500 burban with an 8.1 I have 120900miles and I put about 1200 miles a month Im not sure how many hrs but alot of idle rush hr traffic. I burn about 1qt of motor oil every month and a half, Well last month I checked my oil and as usuall I was low, I jus happen to be changing out my diff fluids so I added a quart to my motor. Man it sure did quiet my engine and the pressure is still the same actually seems to have
more power( maybe jus my imagination) I checked my oil yesterday about a month later and my oil level is almost the same. In the long run what harm can I do by adding 1qt of gear oil with every oil change?
