8.1 cam sensor discontinued???
I am getting a PO343 code, which I assume (and hope) is just the cam sensor itself, but nobody has one. Mine is an '01, which I understand was different from some of the others. Anybody know where I can get one, and if any of the other years would fit mine?? The dealer and parts stores all say good luck finding one. No luck on the internet either. The part #s I have, based on my vin, are OEM 12575182, NAPA CSS227, and Standard Motor Products PC340.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

This is the number you want
12575183 The one you originally quoted was d/c'd. But these are for 2002+ 8.1's. rock Auto has em, for $55.
Both the 182(for the 2001 and the 183 for the 02+ APPEAR to be the same sensor and install in the same position on the drivers side of the front timing cover.

The 182 is the SMP PC340, which Rockauto shows they have, but says unavailable as soon as you add to cart. After finding this link http://www.jasperengines.com/pdf/81L...etSensorTB.pdf , I was afraid that the 183 (SMP PC341) wouldn't work in the '01? I did find one from some off the wall site last night, and placed an order. Hopefully it is a legit site, and they actually have it in stock. If nothing else, I might have to be the guinea pig to try one of the newer sensors and see if it works. The weird thing is that the local dealer told me they aren't showing any part to replace the 182.

The timing sets are different as well and correspond with teh differnces in the CMP sensor.(because the CMP sensor reads the 1x reluctor on the cam sprocket).
You are right, GM shows not part replacement for the D/C's p/n.
Good luck

I realize this thread is 3 months old but it is important since the #182 CMP is discontinued.
From what I'm reading from the Jasper Technical bulletin a person could swap out the newer cam gear part # 12572762 and then add the newer sensor part# 12568983 to keep the older 8.1's running. Not as easy as a sensor swap out but better than having a disable truck.
