Default 2500hd rear 10.5 in a 1500hd/2500

I got a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 light duty crew cab 4wd truck. It has the 6.0 with the 4l80e trans. My rear axle is the 9.5 sf 14 bolt. The rear needs either rebuilt or replaced. I have found a 2004 2500hd with the 6.0/4l80e trans. It was stripped but the front and rear axle 10.5 14 bolt are there and are good. It's my understanding the front diff is the same for both.

Does anyone know if the rear axle will bolt in? I know it can be made to fit. But this is my daily driver and I need it swapped quickly. The ujoint, and brakes are the same part number on Advance Auto.com. Anyone ever done this swap? I'm planning on going by a friends house and doing some measurements on his truck.

Not 1000% sure but I think it is a direct swap. I know my 2010 Suburban 2500 has the 10.5" axle so I'm fairly certain it is the same one....

Only thing that MIGHT be different is the shock mounts on the azle side. I know guys that swap the 11.5" in on the durables conversions have to move the shock mount so I'm not sure if that is the difference in axle housing or from 2500LD to 2500HD.

Just an FYI to anyone considering this swap. It was a bolt in with the exception of the Ujoint. My ujoint was a 1350, 2500hd was a 1410. I bought a bastard 1350/1410 ujoint, but I couldn't get it to work. So I took the driveshaft out of the 2500hd and my 2500 drive shaft...and had the ujoint housing put on my axle. I even took all my nearly new brakes part off my axle and put on the 2500hd axle. Fits perfect.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I am considering this swap. My differential needs a rebuild but I found 2500hd differential for r a good price and wanted to just swap the rear assembly. Could I just swap the yoke from my truck into the new housing to make it work?

My rear axle was noisy, replaced pinion and both carrier bearings, old pinion bearing was mint, wish I had know because carrier bearings where easy, pinion are a PITA
