so 1999 & 2000 (technically some 01-02s, too) were weird years in that they ran two concurrent generations. also, ratings (published in English) are typically for US spec stuff because that's the preponderance of the market reading it.
the C- and K- nomenclature normally refer to the GMT400 platform (2wd & 4wd, respectively). i don't ever remember an official LD or HD designation for those trucks (with the exception of C3500HDs, which were chassis-cabs). these all had the SBC engines (4.3, 305 [5.0], 350 [5.7]) plus the 454 (7.4) big block, and 6.2 & 6.5 diesels... again, the C3500HD - being a weirdo - eventually also wound up with an 8.1 option.
GMT800s were referred to as Silverado/Sierra 1500, 1500HD, 2500, 2500HD, and 3500HD regardless of 2wd or 4wd. they reused the 4.3 v6 but changed to the LS v8s (4.8, 5.3, & 6.0). the duramax 6.6 eventually came around in 2001 for the 2500HD & 3500HD alongside the 8.1 big block.
that said: i see how the owner's book is confusing in that it uses GMT400 nomenclature to describe what are clearly GMT800 trucks in that book (i never noticed that when reading through it before [i had a 99 Sierra for almost 15yrs]). if your truck is the squarer 90s style, your truck uses a different manual (i'd recommend looking at the 1998 book, as i don't remember anything significantly changing).
on the gooseneck question: i don't think it matters whether it's bumper pull, gooseneck, or 5th wheel. pulled weight is pulled weight, and the tow rating is what the truck's frame, suspension, sway control, brakes, powertrain, and driveline can legally withstand without overheating or breaking stuff.
where the hitch type comes into play is what part of the truck bears that weight. bumper pulls are typically capped at 10% tongue weight for the rating (5000lb max trailer means <500lb on the ball). goose & 5er pin weight maxes out at the rear axle's capacity (empty truck with a 6000lb axle weighing 2500lbs on the rear end = 3500lb max pin weight).
that all plays into how you load the trailer for weight distribution.
I will try... But seller may ban me for "asking stupid questions" LOL. 🙈
What number or letter are the ones that are needed?
The last 8 would alow me to call the dealer and have them look it up. They can pull up the RPO Codes.
It's always good to have the full vin to verify though. With as old as they are now, I have seen alot of goofy stuff swaped around.
It could be legit, but It could have been a 4.8, 5 speed that some one put into a 2500 chassis. Or maybe it was a 6.0 truck and they swaped a 5.3L in, It could be a body swaped truck.... Anything is possible now a days... Like why does it have a floater rear end? all the early regular 2500's I have seen had the 9.5 under them.
Some one brought me a 2000 1500 truck and asked me why it was 8 lugs.... When I plugged into the ECU, it Identified the drive train as a 2003 either a 1500HD or a 2500 truck.... At that point I gave him the vin number in the ECU and said this is what it claims it is so do your own research, I don't want anything to do with this unless you know the back story.
I don't know if any part of it was stolen, But I was going to take a chance or be part of it. It was clear that some one swapped the 2000 1500 body onto the 03 Chassis. Maybe they just took 2 wrecked trucks and made one. But no one disclosed that to him and He wasn't going to be able to register any where they require a smog check because once the plug in and see the vin doesn't match it will fail automatically. And if the vin in the ECU is attached to something reported stolen, Game over....they will seize the truck and he will be out the money on it.

Understood.
I also noticed the engine bay is red but the outside is black! 🧐 Maybe it got a Rust oleum color change!
I messaged the guy. We'll see.
I'm pretty sure on the gmt400s the C/K2500 8 lug with the SBC and manual got the full float 14 bolt; otherwise they got the SF with the auto. And with the BBC/diesel they also got the full float regardless of transmission. So maybe it was related to that? 🤔
The C/K3500s got the full float rear axle regardless of anything.
Yes, some one repainted it. The cab is the same way if you look in the door jamb photo
Well, I politely asked the guy if the drivetrain was original because I had never seen that combination. He basically said I didn't know my trucks and to look them up!
Then he added that that was his second truck with that exact setup...🤷
