07 2500HD Classic Build
Whats up Gents,
So i am in the process of building my new daily driver. About 2 months ago i got a 1 owner '07 2500hd classic eclb for a steal. The motor was knocking when i bought it but this was a non issue since i was going to do a rebuild anyway. Its going to be a lifted truck no drop shackles for me...Engine is already on the stand completly torn down and between this week and next all the parts should be arriving. Im going to run the stock 317 heads, i went ahead and ported those. I also decided to keep the stock pistons instead of going flattop since i plan on going either single or twins down the road.(i just want to focus on getting the motor in the truck for now). I have a CAI and a blackbear ecu that i took out of my worktruck(5.3) before i sold it last week that im going to have retuned. I would like to ask for some advice on the cam. I was thinking of going with a 212/218 LL but i would like some input from members. My goal is to have strong mid range torque..but having said that if there is a cheap option out there cam-wise that i could use, let me know. I am on kind of on a budget with this since i still need a lift, rims and tires. The cam that was in the engine is no good so i have to get a cam either way. Also another point i would like some input on..the crank was also toast in the motor(ill give the previous owner props the body is in great shape but he didnt like to change his oil) so i picked up a used crank off a ls1 tech member for $100. Problem is its out of a 01 lq4 that had gen 3 rods..mine has gen 4 rods and ly6 pistons.(dished with valve relief). Ive done some research and the pistons weigh the same, but the gen 4 rods are ovbiously heavier..now ive talked to some people who have told me to just run it like it is again i would like some more input. Thats all for now i will update as i progress.
Exhaust runner
I love cat eye silverados
This is how i would like her to look when im done.
Chevy orange..i have this hair up my *** to repaint it like a zombie green i dont know why.
Intake runner..still needs to be shaped some more but its getting there.
Home built hoist..i attached a winch to the top and pulled the motor that way, not sure why i have a rope on it.
Day i brought her home
My old 1500 work truck. She was my first truck...

The Eglin Pro Stock cams are probably the best "cheap option". They offer... E1838P 216/220 .559/.560 114*, E1839P 220/224 .559/.560 112* or the Sloppy Stage II (which I have) E1840P 228/230 .585/.585 112* I payed $235 for mine on e-bay. These are the exact same "white box" cams from "Trick Flow" and "Jegs" but at a much better price. Be sure to replace the cam's $16 thrust plate. The orange gasket on the old plate gets squished flat and can cause an oil pressure dump from the oil galleys causing oil pressure issues. May as well replace the plastic "barbell" behind the rear cover while it's off. The gen IV rods are much stronger that the gen III plus they should have full floating pins. If I had my choice I'd run the gen IV hands down.
Here is the LQ4/LQ9 manual that may help during assembly, it was my go to for specs.

Yea i saw the sloppy cams on amazon last night. They are a very good deal. I was thinking about going with the 216/220 (im not sure if im allowed to post links). It seems to be the closest i can find to what would give me the low/mid torque i want. I also need to score a cheap set of 8.1 injectors , if im not mistaken the stockers are at like 90% duty cycle on a stock motor so im sure these few upgrades will max those poor little injectors out. On a side note my 6" mandrel for my sanding burrs came in... time to finish these heads up...oh and i did replace the plastic barbell with the metal version, from what i hear it fits tighter which lets less crap bypass the filter..

Your old truck is a 99-02 truck and the PCM will not work with the 07 truck
99-02 is a 512KB
03-07 classic is a 1MB
Leave the finish rough on the intake side. If you polish it smooth, you will have issues with Fuel atomization and the Wall Wetting characteristics will change. Very hard to tune especially on a Mail order tune.
A 6.0L likes a slightly larger cam than a 5.3L engine would.
E1839P 220/224 .559/.560 112 would probably be a good all around cam for the 6.0L You can just squeak by with the GM LS3 Blue springs 12499224
You should have the rotating assembly re-balanced for best results. It will probably run ok if you don't as some have said they have done it with no issue.

im going with a 60 grit finish on the intake side. I had to order the 60 rolls from amazon because harbor frieght had 80 grit and its way too smooth..thanks for the info on the pcm i had no idea, i figured since they were the same pcm it would work...im going to email justin at blackbear and see if i send in my 6.0 pcm and my 5.3 with the tune if he will just switch it over for me..
The 99-02 tune files are not the same as the 03-07 classic. You can't just flash it over. Besides, He will have to re-tune for the combo any way.
Just send your 6.0L PCM in and tell him what you are putting in it. That we he can make some changes and get it to run closer to what it needs.

yea that would be great except you have to flow match a set. Ive heard of ppl going thrpugh 30 to get 8 that flow the same and i only have 16 to play with. Ill probably just decap those 16 and trade for a matched set..or sell em and buy some 8.1's
