Default 02 2500HD brake upgrade

First off I did do a search but stuff was mostly for the 2wd trucks.

Since day one I`ve not been impressed with the brakes on my DD/tow rig 2500HD. More so when I get some 7000 lbs of trailer and jeep behind me.

What would you folks recommend for an upgrade using the stock wheels ?

Get the feeling that the Powerslots/Hawks are mixed. Some like them. Some hate `em. Not sure if they even have an app. for my truck

SSBC from what I have seen is for 2wd apps.

How about EBC stuff ? Green or yellows with there slotted, dimpled rotors all around ?

Does Bendix, Raybests or other "generic" company make a good Performance upgrade for pads and rotors ?

Thanks !!

SSBC makes a bice 4 wheel rotor and pad upgrade for a little over 500 bucks. Also since your truck is older Id do a fluid flush and change over to some ate super blue. Stainless braided brake lines will firm up the pedal feel too. If you want to go further than that, SSBC makes a better caliper for stock diameter rotors.

Or you could always swap to 20s and throw on a set of the 16" 6 piston Wilwoods

Does your truck have Vacuum brakes or hydroboost, switching to hydroboost will make a world of difference if you don't

search Hydroboost conversion install, there is a good thread going on about it now.

If you already have hydroboost, then get some braided steel lines, and some powerslot rotors, they made a world of difference on my old truck

Thanks guys for the help !!

Looked to be sure and indeed the truck is hydroboosted. Familiar with hydroboost as I adapted a 1 ton system for my Jeep. Darn near put that puppy on it`s nose.

So it would seem that a better rotor/pad combo. Plus SS lines/new fluid would be the plan.

Looked at the PS web site and they do indeed have them for my truck. Curious as to why the PS rotors are twice the price of EBC @ Summit racing ? I`ll gladly pay the difference but am wondering what makes the PS parts twice as good ?

How about pads ? On the fence here. Rather not have a bunch of dust but would like better stopping. Same goes for life. Longer is always better 8>) but here again. I`ll trade some life for sticky-ness.

Did not look while at Summit for SS lines. Good source you can recommend ?

Thanks for the help. Know the other drivers on the road thank you !!

Hawk ceramics are good low dust, a little noise but stop good. A lot of guys have had good luck with the SSBC kit that comes with rotors and pads.

I think only the first link is really relevant, but here are some links I have saved up regarding brake maintenance on the 8-lug trucks, though I would imagine most of it would apply to the 6-lug rear disk trucks too.

In the midst of doing my homework to upgrade to aftermarket. I currently have Powerslots/Hawk Pads/Braided lines and frankly shuda just upgraded the whole system at that time. So far looked at Wilwood, Brembo and SSBC. The last is the cheapest by a huge margin, while Brembo was 40% more than Willwood. Brembo really is the cats ***, but $8G's for brakes is some big nut! I just changed pads, greased the caliper bolts and will bleed them next week - brakes are better, but not autocross ready. If I was you, I'd stick with the stock system and make sure they're operating prop, otherwise go SSBC unless u plan on some autocross style driving - which is my goal...R/

Thanks for the help guys !!
Ended up with the SSBC system and braided lines. Still in break in mode but the pedal feels MUCH more solid then before. Have a good tow trip coming up in a couple weeks so we will see how it all works out.

Thanks again the to PTrucks Wrecking Crew !!
