Default '01 2500HD efans

I am looking at doing efans on my '01 LQ4 and wanted to be sure I had few things correct from my searches.

I saw 2500 6.0s had the 34" radiator from the factory, was this for all years? Is this measured width wise?

Does the '01 have the upgraded Alternator? How do I tell?

Do I need any clips for the shroud assembly to bolt into or any other odds and ends other than the harness from GM, Nelson, Blackbear etc and programming?

Thanks,

why are you wanting to switch to e-fans? there is no performance or cooling gains there... the stock clutch fan pulls more than enough cfms for your 6.0L and from what ive read, the stock clutch fan pulls more cfm that an electric fan.

A lot of folks would disagree with you there. I had my LS1 fans on the stock 28 inch rad and I'll admit, they didn't cool it enough when idling around. If I would have made a flat plastic shroud to close up the rad core I'm sure it would have been fine, but I had a 34 inch rad waiting to go in. Now the LS1 fans cool it plenty good, even without a shroud. And true, it doesn't make a HUGE performance difference, but it is noticeable, and makes working in the engine bay waaay nicer. OP, your truck will have either a 105 or 145 amp alternator, and the rating is embossed right into the aluminum. Some guys run fans just with a 105 amp alt, but make sure your battery and cables are in good shape if ya wanna do that.

The rad is measured across the core, not the core and tanks. The support has two sets of mounting holes. If your rad uses the inside holes, it's the 28 inch rad. The wider holes are for the 34. I mounted my fans by drilling a single hole in the fan assembly's bottom surface. There was a big screw protruding through the truck's bottom mounting surface. That screw fits through the hole in my fan assembly. Up top, I riveted a piece of flat aluminum stock (from Home Depot that straddles the span of the 28 inch mounting holes) to a piece of aluminum angle metal that fits between the mounting tabs on the fan assembly. Everyone has their own way of mounting LS1 fans, do a search and get some ideas.

I have e-fans on my 2500 and love them. I do a lot of trailing riding at low rpm and they do awesome on my 6.0. Performance gain...who knows probably some. I got the ls fans off of a camaro (got them for $20) and got a wiring harness from Nelson for $100. Had to have the computer reprogrammed for the fans also. You'll probably pay more for the fans than I did. I made two brackets to secure the fans.

your just converting mechanical energy into electrical energy... the more load on the alternator, the harder is to spin = drag on the motor. so basically the only time your gaining just a little tiny bit of exra hp (maybe 5-10 at most) from having e-fans is when the truck is cold and the fans are not on.
