14 BOLT BUILD (mucho pictures)
First of all....HUGE MASSIVE THANK YOU TO 1FastBrick.
Ok...here we go.
A few of you know I had a little problem with my 10 bolt in December. By small problem, I mean it exploded into a lot of small pieces.
I had been tossing around the idea of building a 14 bolt (9.5" sf) for a while, but the failed 10 bolt made the decision for me.
I picked up an axle out of a burnt down 06 SSS....turned out to be completely useless. (bent all to ****)
Then found a 2500LD 14 bolt (8-lug) and that is what we built.
It was a good starting point since the brake line tabs, shock mounts and lead pads are all in the correct spots.
When I say we, I mean 1FastBrick and myself. (1FastBrick did all the fab work)
The basic process is as follows...
Remove the brake flanges and replace with custom water-jet pieces patterned off the 1500.
Fabricate custom tooling to locate the new flange.
Remove the leaf perches and replace with off the shelf ones (the 2500 perches sit an inch higher than the 1500)
All welding was done with a line up bar and custom made Mark Williams rings.
Weld axle tubes to pumpkin.
I used Superior axle shafts (88-98 K1500 9.5) and turned down the hat 1/8" to clear the disk brakes.
While I was at it...I upgraded to SUV rear brakes, re-using the 1500 parking brakes and all brake lines.
The axle tube is larger, so we had to clearance the cal trax and sway bar mounts.
The gears are 3.73:1 AAM
Center section is OEM TBSS posi (Eaton posi...not a gov-lock)
TA cover
TA stud kit
1350 U-joints
GM Dexron LS 75W-90 fluid.
Powdercoated waxy black.
I am going to upload a **** pot load of photos and over the next few days add the comments. Enjoy.

More photos to come.
The driveshaft was shortened today (.625" iirc). Replaced the front U joint as well. Rear is now a 1350 to match the 9.5 yoke.
All that's left is to bleed the brakes and drive the bitch.
