Whats the towing capacity on a Silverado 1500 4.8 and 5.3 liter. I know they may come with or without towing packages that can affect capacity but whats a ball park figure.

6000 lbs to 9000 lbs, depending on rear end ratio.

There are a lot of factors that contribute to true towing capacity. When equipped with a 3 point hitch, HD gas shocks, auxillary tranny cooler, brake controller a 5.3L 1/2 ton can handle 6K to 7k lbs on a routine basis. You may also need air bag helper springs to keep the truck from bouncing or bottoming out to bad.

I know the manufacturer rates these trucks to handle up to 9K lbs, but I can't imagine I would ever want to try that kind of load for any distance. Plus, a 9K lbs loaded trailer would have a tongue weight of around 1300 lbs which means you couldn't haul anything in the bed without straining those load bearing axleshafts.

Also, the 4.8 can haul about the same as a 5.3, but I wouldn't want any less low end torque for towing than what my 5.3 has. The 5.3 is rev happy enough as is under load.

Im really looking for something that can tow either the chevelle or camaro to and from the track thats about it. I want to stick with the truck cause its nice having a bed you can just throw **** in.

If you need more power, you could slap a Radix on there!
