So did a couple of calls loojing for good choices on a cam, mostly hoping to further my decision on a tsp220. Guys at a couple places says that .600 lift is way to much for a stock 5.3. They recommened a cam like a 215/223 .541/.550 lift on a 120 lsa. My thing is i dont want a cam reving to 6700rpms. I want a cam no more 6200 and pull with my mods. Anyone tried a 220? Should i go for the old 220r .581 lift instead?

My brother says itll last 20k if that and itll let go and ruin the upgrades im doing to it. Has these 5.3s had massivr failure if someone has taken care if it religously and oil changes every 3-5k with valvoline or mobile 1?

I mean he says he hears horror stories but thats with anything. Even Built new motors have mess ups every so often
Know i see that if i go to a huge cam and raise compression and rev to 6700k or 7000k that it would be kinda effy. But with a BTR stage 4 cam, and a 3000, 3200 stall i feel like my money will be well worth it. Especially since im doing the whole top end as well.

Heard the BTR stage 4 truck cam was good for a truck. Its 5600lbs or so and pulls good on top end. Btr should have more TQ than a TSP 220r cam and make peak power sooner than later.

I have a 5.3 with 168k on it. I change the oil only when the DIC tells me, and it's about 7500mi each change.
the truck has been cam'd with a .559 lift cam for the last ~30k, procharged for ~10k of that, made 477 and had been over heated well more than once when my fans weren't working properly. Other than the occasional 2002 specific piston slap on really cold mornings, she runs great.
Wouldnt hesitate to take that 5.3 from NM to Canada if the need arose.
I consider the Gen3/4 architecture to be some of the most reliable and stout engines on the planet.

I have the clasic 01 piston slap and only happens for a min to two on a cold start up, doesnt have to be super cold outside. Done that sine day 1 my dad bought it at 3 miles.
Sounds like a beast truck man, i have a little vibe my fiance (which shes a trooper, letting me do this) that we take on road trips(35mpg vs 10 smiles per gallon)

NICE little cam. Idles smooth around 725 rpm, pulls strong through 6200. Great all around cam for a heavy, daily driven vehicle.
