Default Which direction next?

I have an 05 1500 ccsb Z71, LM7 with AFE CAI, LT headers, ported stock TB, and comp 54-451-11 cam, running a custom diablew tune, logged and loaded through a Diablosport Intune. Stock converter, stock injectors, stock 3.42 gears, and stock 265 tire size.

Cam specs are:
208/212 @ 050
.554/.558 lift
115 LSA installed straight up

Truck runs really well over 2500 rpm (pulls a trailer really well in 3rd) but is a complete dog below that. Fuel economy is terrible, 15-16mpg avg unloaded, (down from 19-20 pre cam swap). Truck is going to be hooked to an 16 ft enclosed trailer or 30 ft camper about half the time I drive it.

What do I need to do to get some low end back and possibly some economy back? Injectors? From what I can tell, the injector slope has been changed a lot. Dyno tune? Or is my cam just wrong? Comp recommended it. I know a stall would let my cam work better but I'm concerned about towing with a stall, and I know economy will get worse. Supposedly, comp said I don't need a stall for my setup.

Funds are limited as two kids have arrived since I got the cam installed, I just want to know where to spend the money I can throw at it.
Thanks for any help I can get

I would go with gears or converter to help get the truck into its power curve quicker.

Get a real tune. I'd never run a diablow tune with what you are running.

I would agree there must be a lot of room for error with a remote tune. It took him 6 tries to get the check engine light to quit coming on for the rear O2 and Cat delete. So I've often wondered if that isn't the direction i should go. It seems like there are some inconsistencies in performance at part to moderate throttle as well. I still woder if the cam is one size too big, but if the tune is off, it would explain the lack of throttle response off idle. To accurately describe it, it's like the ecm goes "what???!!!!" When you stand on it and then a second or so later it starts really running well.

Would a converter hurt me during towing though?

A real tune will do wonders for you and that cam is fine for towing. A stall would definitely help, but gears would be more for your setup it seems since you tow quite a lot. I would do 4.10's and I'd be willing to bet you gain 1-2mpg towing with them. 3.42 gears are a dog for just about anything in our trucks.

Thanks for the input. I'll start shopping for a good tuner in the Iowa a area.

That's a small cam, it should tow just fine. If it has a hesitation then that's in the tune.

First thing I would do is ditch the 3.42 gears. That thing is a dog even unloaded in stock configuration. In a CC I would probally go 4.10 especially for towing.

Then I would find someone who could tune it in person.

A dyno tune is only going to adjust your WOT.

With an in person tune you can do the WOT, Normal Driving, Passing, Hook a trailer up and make sure it's tuned properly for that as well. You will get the shift points dialed in as well for all around driving.

It's a little more tailored to your specific set up Vs. looking for maximum power.
