Default aaaaannnnd, ANOTHER casualty from Comp 918 springs

From my 5.3 with tr220 .551/.551 112 cam. Low miles on these Comp 918 valve-springs, and were supposedly the "new batch". Broke and let loose on my way home from movies going down dirt road at about 25mph. Felt like it was missing and sputtering hard. Immediately shut it down... and it proceeded to have a code for the crank position sensor the next day... which I also changed out for new, and nothing changed, then I decided to pop covers.
Never would have guessed (although maybe I should have) this would be how I'd finally kill my near 200k mi. engine that was running great up until that point!

These photos were taken exactly as I had found everything as soon as I popped off the valve-cover.

I have not yet tried to contact Comp to see what they have to say. I'll have to hopefully find my receipts first.... and probably wait until after the holiday...

and now I know first-hand... go with PAC's or PSI's!

Somethings are out of your control. I broke a PAC 1518 but because of the great customer support PAC and Texas Speed gave me by having a brand new set to my house the next day I will continue to use them. Sorry to hear about this hope you get up back up and running soon.

Glad I went with PAC. That sucks man. That's not even an extremely aggressive cam nor were you even revving high.

Sorry to hear the bad news. I was relieved when I arnt with my PRC duals. So if something should happen, it won't drop the valve.

That doesn't look like a defective spring, it looks like a defective retainer or keeper. Sorry about your luck though. Oops, after looking at the pic, I see where it is broken off. Sorry

If you have a short temper or can't refrain from cussing someone out on the phone, then don't call COMP. They will be absolutely no help. Been there, done that.

Those pictures look exactly like mine. Piston and all. Just start looking for a new motor and cut your losses.

Just to let you know, I did finally get ahold of someone who wasn't an ******* with COMP and they ask me to send them my springs and they did determine that I had a defective spring and sent me a new set. I sold that new set to help fund an actual good set of springs

Interesting thought I see the OD edge looks rolled up.I would like to see what a stock spring has for retainer support in the same area.
