I've only had 2 6 speeds and 6 or 7 4 speeds. Comparatively speaking IMO the 4 speed blows without a converter on a low hp ride. The 6 speed just has so much more out of the hole, more acceleration for same throttle position as well as able to gear lower for the highway. I like the better gas mileage and better performance a **** ton better. For a high hp ride I agree a 4l80 and a converter is likely the better choice. For a DD love my 6 and stock converter. Its good for 3k with the PD blower.

Really it's my dodge that bothers the **** out of me. My dodge makes a ton of power.....so much so I can't see how it would NOT drive better with less gears..........just lug that bitch. However, I had a 2006 dodge before this one with the 4 speed auto. That truck was probably around 800 ft/lbs. compared to my 2012 which is probably a tad over 1000 ft/lbs. One thing that is nice about the 6 speed in the newer truck, I started having trans issues before I got to 100k miles in the 2006 truck (48RE). My 2012 with the 6 speed drives just as good as it did the day I bought it. No transmission issues at all and I'm not easy on it. So it obviously is much stronger. I'd have to have a pretty serious built 4 speed auto behind it to get it to live.

i do agree with you, if i was to build something to make upwards of 700-800hp/tq i would be more focused on the 4l80 ive been kicking to the side for the last few months, and may even eventually end up with one in my 99, but as far as the yukon goes it will never see enough power to worry about all the mods it would take to run a 4l80!! Kick myself for not getting a 6speed truck to start with!! I have driven a few trucks and cars whth 6l80/90 and honestly like the way they shift and seem to have a shitload more *****, and always seem to be in the right gear for the situation!!!
