10bolt vs 9"
at what point is the factory 10 bolt not adequate anymore?? ive seen plenty of people going pretty quick with them but at some point it has to give... is 1300hp at 4500lbs too much?? i know it would be ideal for me to just go with the 9" but thats $4000 i REALLY dont want to spend!
anyone have any real world experience putting that kind of abuse to a 10 bolt?

I just got a Moser 9" (M9) with a new center from a ls1 tech sponsor which was great to work with. And Wildwood brakes for 2,800. So 4000 isn't the price you'd would have to pay . but you could go crazy and end up paying that price.

I don't think I will ever put a 9" in anything. I got harassed when I went the route of a Dana 60 in my car. "That is a heavy pig of a rear end, why would you put that in your car?" The 8-3/4 it replaced weighed the same... and that weighs the same as a 9".
Why don't I want to run a 9"? look where the pinion gear is, in relation to the ring gear... Its way down there! Which tends to be a power robber. But, a catch 22, this is also what makes them tough. I watched two buddies switch from 10 bolts to 9", and both trucks slowed down two tenths... that is equivilent to adding 200lbs. to the the vehicles at the speeds they were going. I figured, if I added 50lbs. like everyone thought I would going to a Dana 60, im still ahead. Turns out, the car weighed the same!
I have been pricing out Dana 60 stuff for my truck now, and it doesn't look all that bad. I will build my own housing using my jig, and an old truck housing... same junk that is in my car. I leave off the trans brake in my car at as high as 5500rpm and it hasn't skipped a beat, and it still just has an aluminum tin cover on the back.

Lots of very fast guys running 10 bolts. That said, many lower power guys have scattered them without much effort. Its the same as the 60e argument IMO. I too think your budget is way high. I believe got torque is cheaper for a complete bolt in 9. The problem with the 10 bolt is you can only do so much to strengthen it. Foose went 10s and 800+rwhp before swapping on the 10bolt.

As the build drug on and on......it got more serious. Originally it was gonna be a mid to high 9's project, but as I went along I realized it was gonna be more serious than that. Also, as it took time, I was able to apply more money to the project.
Flaco told me once that he was getting about 30 passes out of a set of gears with his 10-bolt in his nos combo. I'm sure turbo's are more forgiving than that being that they are the slowest of the fi options.....but
