im looking to get a truck. im not terribly picky, and the truck will mainly be just transportation for the winter. anyway.... i have about 10-12k thousand to spend, and i was looking at mainly things like colorado's and frontiers. but i saw at a local dealship today a silverado in my price range. i know little about trucks though so i wanted to get some opinions.
anyway... its a 2003 silverado 1500. i believe a Z71. 4x4, w/ the 5.3 vortec (i believe). has the 6 disk changer. crew cab (it has the 4 doors, but not the 4 big doors. the back doors are smaller), all that stuff... but the thing is, it has 101k miles.... they want 12,995 for it. looking the truck over, it honestly looks to be in very good shape. there are small signs of it being higher millage, but the engine bay looks decent, the interior is great overall, the exterior doesnt look beat.
what do you guys think?

It's an extended cab, not a crew. The crew cab has 4 full size doors.
As long as the truck was well-maintained I don't see a problem with it. I ran my 5.3 up to 118K miles, 83K of which was with a supercharger. After I did the 6.0 swap I pulled the motor apart and it literally looked brand new inside, the cross-hatching is still visible on the cylinder walls. These engines will go forever as long as they are maintained properly.
Check the 8th letter of the VIN....if it's a T, it's the iron 5.3. If it's an R, it's the 4.8

thanks. i figured something like that. does it sound like a good price? i did a KKB, the value was like 17grand. i wasnt sure what was going on, i couldnt believe the dealership could be so far below the blue book.

Its harder to finance a 100K+ mile vehicle so they may just be looking to get rid of it. If you have cash in hand you could look in the forum classifieds. Sometimes there are really good deals in there. I don't know what that particular truck is worth.
