Firebird closed this week. That makes 2 tracks in as many months.
Speedworld was open for many years before the government basically forced it to shut down.
I am not sure what happened to firebird, but it was open some 30 years up to this last week.
The worst part is those with some power NHRA, IHRA, etc sat back and did nothing. Now we have no tracks in phx and just one in the whole state. (Tucson) Good luck to this sport and any hope in keeping kids from racing on the streets.

Well looks like I may have been somewhat wrong about firebird. Looks like the current owner wasn't allowed to renew their lease, but lucas oil and the NHRA maybe reopening the track in a few months,

From what I am hearing Firebird closed to lease with the Indian rez ending. Some one new took over set up 2 events in one week but did not clear it by the Indians pissed them off. Now they have to work it all out before they can hold any events. Just what I have heard it could be bad info...

I think they were just done dealing with the firebird ownership. It will be reopening soonish. As for speedworld it won't be reopening anytime soon at all. That was an uder fail on everyone's part. Government was overstepping and the owner did a terrible job complying with the situation. Eventually he failed to pay his rent to the state which then pulled his lease. The county was trying to shut him down for the better part of a 6 or 7 years.
