I kinda figure a gun built to hunt bear and elk would be good for anything in north east Texas. Hell, I may take it squirrel hunting! ha ha

Is recommend against using this gun for deer if you're wanting to eat much of it. A shoulder shot will blow both shoulders apart. Better shoot em in the gut or slightly behind the shoulders, the exit wound is pretty damn big. It's really just a good hog gun imo, if you hit one in the shoulder its going down.

For deer in Texas a 270 or 300 in particular the wsm is best with a nosler partition ballistic tip. Much faster round, stable out to 300 on the 270 and I've killed deer out to 600 with the 300. Doesn't screw up your meat too bad either should you not have perfect shot placement.

It's true the cartridge was designed for big game but there is such thing as overkill. It's also an outdated cartridge, much better options for deer hunting.

I concur. Bad thing is, I dont like to kill deer as much as hogs. I will most likely not deer hunt this year. Hogs are destroying too much around my folks place, and need to be thinned out. Deer are small and young in my hunting area too, so I will do my job in letting them repopulate. Oh, and I will never have more than a 150 yard clearing where I hunt, so brush guns work well. Real Black powder guns too. I dont even know what a 600 yard shot looks like, ha ha.

The .444 is a great choice for..... Errrr.... Moose? Lol

I have a 45-70 and it's pretty much worthless to me except to shoot Biiiiiiiiig hogs, for everything else in this area, a 150gr .270 round and a good shot is all you need.

Most of us use a 7mm, or 300 win mag, or .375HH magnum for moose around here. You need more range than you would get with a .444.

Or, just wait for road-kill...... FREE MEAT!!

The .444 is capable of taking most North American game within its effective range. That being said, I wouldn't use it for 1000 plus pound animals when something else with more downrange penetration is available. The .338 comes to mind.
The .444 is fine for deer taken in the lung area and makes me feel quite cosy when carried for bear protection. It basically has twice the muzzle energy of a good .44 magnum round.

Well, i shot it finally. I love these marlin guns. I didnt get a hog this weekend, due to a poorly placed pop up blind, but I did see what it would do to a armadillo. It split him in half. fun gun. I am looking for a 45-70 now to complete the collection. I have a 44mag, 444, and 30-30, all marlin.

Ha yeah, We are working on it now. We got a feeder, and a ground blind setup, with a game cam showing them coming up at ~7:30pm. We just need lights now. Green glow etc. AR would be fun!

Shot a railroad tie at 150 yards that was sitting on a 55 gallon drum. Threw it quite a few feet. Would like to find another one
