what causes an injector to look like this?

yeah it was 2nd cylinder back passenger side, that was the only injector like that. they are suppose to be the 8.1l marine injectors 42#.

Ok I was concerned they were closer to stock and that maybe they were being over worked.
I would have to agree with the others as well. possibly ans issue with the valve not sealing properly.

I would check your pushrod length on that side.

Im using 7.4 push rods, 1.75 roller rockers, and dual springs.

Sorry but with out actually measureing your set up that means nothing to me. There are several variables that could affect pushrod length.
It could have a larger base circle. The vale stems could be installed higher then factory spec the rocker arms your using could affect it as well.

i know i am just saying thats whats in there right now. i know i need to get a pr tool to measure them.

do you have acces to an infrared heat indicator??? There cheap at harbor freight.

something like that. If that cylider is colder on that exahust manifold it may indicate the exahust gasses are not exiting all the way. Same thing on top at the intake manifold near the injector bosses only with heat.

pics are still up on my computer??? reload the page maybe. And when i get the injectors back ill try the heat gun method. gotta see what they say about the condition of the injectors first, i did buy them from ebay....
