Tuning decapped injectors
#1
I have searched and not found much on deccaps mainly just info on dekka injectors. I purchased a set of deccaps from huntertuned and am wondering about tuning them. Since they are original equipment do I need to just change the flow rate only ? Or ?

Yes, you must change the flow rate.
But in all honestly it goes beyond that and that is where the problem starts. There is no other data you can really use when you mod the stock injector like that. Sure you know the flow rate but the rest you are relying on the stock information to make it work still. Some people get them to work but many have issues with fueling that ends up all over the place.
Depending on your needs there are a few stock injectors for trucks that already go to 50lb/hr and 52lb/hr. If more is needed I would suggest going with good quality injectors that come with spread sheet data for them.

Yea, that's what I'm concerned with. I know people have run them without issues but the details on tune are hard to find. My setup is going to be a bone stock lm7 going 3 bar sd with fahler speed log manifold with a cast VS 78/75 intercooler. Have wideband going in along with a aeromotive stealth 340. I dont know what power it will make ? Planning on running 8lbs until I get a cam and springs.

I've HEARD of people running decapped injectors, but I've never seen them run on a street vehicle. They have no spray pattern, Every tuner I know has stated that they are a pain in the *** to tune.... Especially for anything that isn't WOT

Now you guys have me nervous, I guess I will slap them in and just play with them. If they dont cut it I guess I'll cough up some dough for a reputable set. Any suggestions preferably around 300 bucks ?

How much power are you trying to make??
There are stock truck injectors that go all the way to 52lb/hr at 4 BAR. That is plenty of fuel lots of build and even some mild boost on pump gas.
Past that going to some nice injectors will run around $500 new.

As of now looking for around 5 to 550rwhp , after I build my spare engine up. I plan on maybe 650 -800 ? This is strictly a street truck that I will sometimes pull a car hauler with rarely. Just want to convert to awd and tear up some high hp cars off the light down in mexico. Planning on staying pump 91 and will add meth once I reach the limit of pump gas.

decaps are for those who are trying to be 'sloppy' and throw something together to just beat on it.
if you are going to drive it for any length of miles on the street and have it somewhat reliable, get real injectors.
Yes there are plenty of engines on youtube that have decaps and make decent power, but do you want to trust that on your combo?
if youre building a cheap, lets make 600rwhp for an upcoming Ls event, go for it. But, real injectors are the way to go.
