tranny temp gauge not working with swap?!!
#1
hey fellas, so I have a 99 nbs silvy, I swapped in a 01cluster for the temp gauge and it doesn't read..I heard that the only issue with 99 was if the cluster wasn't from a 99 the bag light would stay on.I know the cluster is good cause i saw it reading temp before i pulled it. do 99 come wired for the gauge?
I was hoping it would have fixed my gas gauge issue but didn't looks like my sending unit is the culprit of the speratic readings
any input would be helpful
truck its in is 99 2wd rcsb 5.3 4l60e
came out of 01 4wd 2500hd 6.0

Your fuel gauge reading issue is related to the sending unit. You need to replace the fuel pump assembly which includes the new sending unit.
I am not sure on the temp gauge. You might want to speak with a cluster shop to see what it would take to make it work. It may need some software in the cluster or on the ECU side to make it work correctly. Being the first year of production, it may not be possible. With an advanced diagnostic Scan tool you could see if has trans temp capability's. You will be able to see if it has temp reading under the transmission parameters.

hmmm..well ill have to drive it more and see..I have a big old cooler for it up front and didn't drive it very far at all today..maybe 2miles at 35mph at 30* degrees..I would have bet it was wired up for a tranny gauge.
and ya I now know it has to be the sending unit itself, kinda sucks..I've seen gm sells a gas additive to try and correct this problem. .its around $60 though which is crazy but
seems odd to me that the unit is already crapping out..I've owbed
