Torque Management
#11
This probably sounds stupid but here we go.
What does the torque management do? How does it slow the truck down?
Would the purchase of a programmer/tuner fix this?
Sorry if it sounds stupid, I am clueless when it comes to electronics.
Would mods like headers/exhaust, intake, throttle body, e-fans, pullies and maybe a high flow water pump and cooler thermostat help with this problem.
Thanks guys

Traction controll is part of the ABS system i believe, a totally different concept

Traction control sensors are near the wheel hubs. The detect when the wheels aren't spinning at the correct rate vs the rpm the engine is at. Tq Mng pulls timing to reduce the power the engine can make and therby reducing how much gets to the tranny. I think its all calculated in the computer. It calculates X times Y and figures it is making too much power and pulls timing until X times Y doesn't equal too much any more. Thats one technical description right thar! I say take it all out but, I'm on my 5th
transmission.
transmission.

That's it in a nutshell. You can edit the allowed max torque, and the amount of torque management per gear. Torque management is applied when accelerating from low speed and when shifting. This is when the trans is most vulnerable.
my technical description: TM=
no TM=

Is there a tutorial somewhere for working with the TM settings in HPTuners? I have looked at it a little and it looks confusing. Seems like there are 50 different settings for TM. There are probably only 1 or 2 tables that need to be modified to modify the TM settings but I couldn't tell which 1 or 2 those are....
I want firmer shifts and burnouts in my girlfriends 2002 Sierra. I can do nasty burnouts in my 2004, because as far as I know it does not have ANY TM because it is 5 speed!

i think traction control will also decelarate the engine.... with mine on and playing in the latest ice storm if I punched it at any point while driving the engine drops the rpms almost as soon as the wheels start to spin.... but will allow them to slightly spin (probably the brakes pulsing, I would guess)
Wet tires, dry pavment and the TC turned off and I can get'em both to spin for a good long ways.
I guess this is the norm

Also in the tuning section of the help file there is a brief description of what tables to change when you put your vehicle into OLSD. There are better descriptions on the message board though. You don't want TM screwing w/ timing/fuel while tuning your ve or spark tables.
