First, if this is covered somewhere, please accept my apologies. I'm not real familiar with this part of the site, but I couldn't find what I was looking for.

My father bought a 1997 Chevy Silverado. I have HPTuners for my 02 Formula. I tried to scan his truck, but it couldn't find the PCM. I'm guessing this is because his truck has the older PCM (I can scan my buddy's 99 2dr Tahoe since it has the newer not-yet-Gen-3 PCM). Anyway, I'm looking for inexpensive options for his truck. We mainly want the ability to scan so we can troubleshoot, but if we can get a Tuner package (like HPTuners) for a similar price, we'd do it. It must scan engine parameters/sensors and have the ability to read/reset DTC's. Tuning would be nice depending on the price. So what is everyone using?

hptuners is not supporting the 96-97 vortec trucks.Really there is one company that does but has no logging software with it.

 

You can try Monodax. They have a scanner MXScan for 96 and newer GM vehicles. You will need either Tunercat OBDII Hardware (*) or Jet Performance Products (Dynamic Spectrum Tuner) OBDII Hardware to connect to your vehicles OBDII port. With this compo you should be able to log and tune your dad's 97 Silverado. Check out the specs to be sure that the 97 trucks are covered but I believe that they are.
