Default REALLY annoyed.....

Just venting,

During my Whipple install, I paid $800 (as part of the install) for a tune. Little did I know, it was half ***'d from the get go.

1. No 2 bar OS (tuned with 1bar, MAF only it looks like)
2. VE table wasn't tuned properly
3. Truck would go pig rich to 10.0 (AFR gauge only reads to 10.0) during a part throttle to full throttle transition.

So, when I put the 2bar OS on it, it wouldn't idle. It would crank, then die immediately.

Through MANY tune revisions (17 now), the VE table is getting settled in and it's running 110% better than when I picked it up from the install.

Here is what the VE table looks like now:

84 80 80 86 90 93 94 93 94 91 92 87 80 81 81 81 81 81 81 81

It's not perfect but we're still tuning it.

Thanks to Atomic for helping me with it. He's been a great help.

We talked about it a lot in email, and I haven't been shy about admitting publicly its one of the big problems when shops get large; they don't have the time or interest to really dial in a setup. They have the ability absolutely, but most guys aren't going to pay for the hours of tuning needed to really get a setup dialed in. A couple passes on the MAF with a wideband and out the door you go. Pretty sure your VE table was never touched.

What half of those iterations were related to is figuring out that what they said was a "2.5bar map" is actually a 2bar, which is a very important detail. The "house brand" injectors also worry me a bit, but they seem to be ok thus far.

I would be ashamed if I charged someone $800 to only do a couple passes on the MAF table and remove TM.

VE table values are somewhat arbitrary and depend heavily on what is used for engine size and injector size. Non-referenced FPR setups always have increasing values in boost areas since you are basically having to trick the injectors into adding more fuel. On a referenced FPR setup, the values are nearly constant going straight down a particular column. Not a bad thing, just worth point out.

I've had a lot of trouble in the past finding tuners that have time to actually work on your stuff. Went through three one after the other.

I'm dealing with the same.. From time to time depending on the temp outside running good or running ruff! New tuner needed!
