Default Problems with HPT connecting to VCM

I can't get HPT to connect to my VCM. I keeep getting a "Cable not found" error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the com port in the device manager and have triple-checked all of the connections. I am runnning off of COM1 on my laptop, windows xp pro sp2. Anyone got any ideas? Does "cable not found" mean specifically that the computer can't find the little box between the computer and the OBDII connector, or does it just mean that it can't connect to the VCM in general? Are there any fuses that I can check that might be blown?

I had a similar problem and had to send in my connection device for repairs.I'd e-mail them to see about having it checked out.I had to send it to Casper electronics then they sent it to HPtuners it took about a week to fix.

Do you have another GM vehicle with an OBDII connector? Try connecting to that with the scanner and see if it connects. Check your Cig Lighter fuse... I bet it's blown. It will not connect if your cig lighter fuse is blown.

check and see if you have an infared port on your laptop. if so try and disable it via device manager or in setup. these have been known to cause com port conflicts with modems before. could also try and remove/reinstall you com port with default settings 9600/8/none/1.
