I have a 2 bar speed density setup that I'm going to install with my new built 6.0. I also have the HP tuner software and am having someone else tune it. Is it true that the software doesn't compensate for altitude?

The way I understand it, Yes and no.......
No it doesn't if you start at 4000 foot and drive to sea level, or start at sea level and drive to what ever.
But if you shut the truck off and restart it, the MAP will reset so to speak....This of course is only with SD.....
I went from 4000 foot to sea level, I didn't drive the truck, but I didn't have to retune once I got there.

BTW I vote HPTuners...

well rather than make a new thread, let me ask you this.

I have zero experience with tuning. My truck is stock right now, but I plan to do a 224/224 with tt3000 stall OR 6.0 swap before next summer. I live only an hour away from nelson. Would it be in my best interest to spend the 375 for him to tune it and have the free updates, or should i buy the $650 hp tuners?

I'm not sure if I can justify spending the extra $275 when i'm pretty close to nelson and I know he can tune better than I ever will

my thing is with hptuners you can tune up to 4 different vehicles with it for that extra $275...you might not think it now but you probably will buy another car/truck/suv in the next few years and who knows you might even modify that one with hptuners unlike a one time dyno tune or mail order tune it grows with you rather then you growing out of it. HPTuners was definitly the best investment I've ever made...tuned my 98 Z28, then my 00 GTP, then my 99 Buick century & then my 98 V6 camaro...no other program on the market could do the same for that price.

I agree 100%-
After reading everything on this board and real life experience with mail order or drive in tuners, you will wait for your "custom tune or update".
They also get "busy" and make you wait which is hard after you have done that new mod and want to get it going.Tuners always have something to play with and your not new money.
Plus your can save some money down the road with the credits with some friends if you pool together. Can get from2-4 tunes per kit according to HP.

I am going to HP tuners also

How about a Group Buy for us new tuners ???

For what they offer they are the least expensive solution on the market...not to mention the fact that with the 8 credits they give you you'll be able to tune up to 4 pcm locked vehicles...so as for a group buy...just find a "group" of 3 other people in your area & you'll be able to tune them all

4 pcm licenses
scanner & editor package
nearly 2 hours of standalone data logging
4 analog inputs
2 analog outputs

Nelson is a very good tuner,I would have to say if you are willing to learn then I would not think twice and get HPTuners.I promise you will be very happy you did. After you got it and started playing with your tuning, you will see that it is more than worth that 650.00,I promise
