Default Need ECM help

Do ECM's need to be married to the BCM?
I tried cranking over the engine today but nothing happened when I turned the key. The fuel pump didn't even cycle.
I took the ECM out and plugged it into a NNBS '07 and it did the same thing. Only the engine light came on when I tried to crank the engine over.
Any ideas?

Engine and ECM are '07 6.2L with 6L80E.

Do I need to take that to the dealer to have done or can I do it with something like EFI Live/HP Tuners?
