loging software?
#1
Ok, I'm pretty much a idiot when it comes to computers and tuning. I allready have a laptop but reading through the tuning 101 posts just makes me scared. So is there software availible that just allows me to take logs that can be sent to a mail order tuner (w4m or Nelson) and have them tune it using the logs? Also anyone have the part number for the 2002 PCM? Thanks, Ben

I have AutoEnginuity and also a wideband. You can send logging info to your tuner and he can adjust the tune. You might have to do this a few times to get to tune perfect but worth it if there is no dyno tuner in your area

There are two type of scan software available. The first are the basic type, it will scan the generic EPA OBD 2 data points, the second are the enhanced GM OBD2 software. These scan all 23 of the performance data points plus all the other GM specific data points. You definitly want the latter. If you are going to scan only you will need one with the ability of running a 20 minute scan. Taking a drive and scan log for 20 minutes should give the tuner all the input you need to get an excellent tune. After the tune is reinstalled you then need to do a PCM relearn and drive several hundred miles, log another 20 minute run and send to the tuner. He will then know if you need a reflash.
Bottom line, get a good OBD 2 scan software with bidirectional cables so you can also do a CASE Learn procedure if you replace PCM's. I believe the AutoIngenuity and EASE are both bidirectional scan tools.

AutoEnginuity has Enhanced GM scanning as an add on and is bidirectional as well as mentioned. I do not think that any of the logging software products in this catagory range can do Case learn though. You will need HPTuner, EFILive or Tech2 to do Case learn AFAIK.
