Question Knock Retard and pinging HELP

I'm getting KR and can hear the engine ping for a sec almost every time I push the throttle. It seems like it doesn't register on the HPT graph when I punch it hard, but if I ease on or give it 50% it shows KR up to 5 or 6*. I've been changing timing tables like a madman and it only helps a little to retard it, but I'm seeing knock even as low as 18* timing. The MAF is showing 8.3 at 30% throttle, and 28.5 at 90% throttle.

Went 400 miles this weekend (easy on the throttle) and filled up at 3 different gas stations with 91 non-ethanol. It's not bad gas

I changed PE to come in at 22% TPS and watching my AFR it drops to 12.6 or something right away. Can't see it being too lean

Should I be looking at MAF? Maybe some colder spark plugs?

LS6 10.5:1, comp 212/218 558/563 115 LSA degreed to 111 ICL, CAI, truck MAF and intake, 31# 8.1L injectors, new fuel filter, just washed the K+N, don't know what else to say

Thanks

If you are hearing knock - then it is real. That means you've got a problem with air, fuel, spark, etc. Have you verified your fuel pressure? Agreed to post up a log. If you have EFI live I can help you.

Looks like he is using HPtuners?

Do you have a wideband or are you saying 12.6 Commanded AFR?

Also, what Operating System is your PCM?
My 2000 is actually a 1999 and had the crappy PCM, a 2002 PCM with 12212156 OS is what your looking for, or the last 5# on the Part number is 0411 on the PCM. It has a better processor, and has more tables to play with.

Post up your log and scan, somebody will be able to help you.

Nonnie, I thought the PCMs were the same? I put an 02 OS on my 99-00 PCM. Becuase I thought the KR I was having might have been due to the older PCM, I put an 0411 (02) PCM in my truck and it made no difference.

Also, just so you know, the knock sensor sensitivities on the 6.0s and LS1/6s are super sensitive from the factory. They are not compatible with aftermarket valve springs and hardened pushrods. The 4.8 and 5.3s are set far less sensitive from the factory and I get no KR with those settings. However given that you hear knock I wouldn't recommend desensitizing yet until you can verify AFR.

OK you've uncovered another problem I have... I run a laptop that I can't figure out how to connect to the internet. I use my desktop pc to do internet stuff. I might have to spend a little time trying to troubleshoot my laptop and figure out how to get internet going so I can send you guys a log.

Can I get a log and tune to a CD-ROM and send it from my pc?
