This is in my 99 truck and a new setup. With the lq9/t56 I had prior I had no problems with KR.I have swapped in a 150,000mi 5.3 new cam bearings ,boost cam,ls7 lifters,ls9 gaskets,7.4pr's. I have also installed a new 4l80e with an hd-2 and a single disc circle-d stall. I am running 93 octane and have a fairly low timing table,I even reduced it by 5 degrees and it will still kr with partial throttle. The trans is acting crazy also the converter wants to lock sitting still and the truck will go dead, also it is like you put it in neutral sometimes at stop sign. Post your tune, config file, and a datalog showing the KR.

 

I would upgrade to 01-02 operating system. It very well could be false knock due to the more aggressive valve train setup. I had to desensitize my knock sensors a bit on mine.

 

I never had knock issues with the lq9/t56 and I ran the same patriot golds.I will try and get a log tomorrow.I looked back over the tune and found that I still had torque management on the trans. I will delete it and go from there. Merry Christmas!!!

Do a log of burst knock retard next time.

 

I found out that my old lq9/t56 tune had the knock sensors desensitized so I went back to these settings and viola no KR. Truck runs pretty good for a cam only 5.3...only thing is when I put on the turbo kit I dont want heavily desensitized knock sensors. Should I buy an 02 computer or flash an 02 operating system. I am already gonna have to upgrade to the 2 bar map OS,so what should I do?? Thanks guys and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

 

Flash in the newer OS. The newer OS will have more tables to make fine tuning adjustments. The differences in the computer it self is very minimal from the 99-00 to the 01-02.

 

Desensitizing knock sensors is adjusting the output of the sensors, they hear a noise and you are ignoring it. Burst knock retard is the computer reducing the timing based on its prediction of knock.
I suggested that you log burst knock retard, because if that is what is retarding your spark, reducing it has less engine damaging potential than desensitizing the sensors.
A log will show if I am wrong that it is burst knock.

 

Also if your tune is off like when you first start to log/tune after a change will cause KR to pop up alot. I never worry about KR until i have the fueling good and the spark where i like it. Sooooo being tooo rich or lean will cause KR.
