It started out as Tunercat OBD2. Tunercat sold the rights to market and sell it to Jet. It is almost the same thing as Tunercat OBD2with a few changes. The vehicle licensing is different and I don't know if you get all the software updates that John at Tunercat provides to original Tunercat purchasers. I use TC OBD2 almost daily. I can do anything with it from an editor standpoint that I can do with HP Tuners editor. It will even do some things and some vehicles that HP Tuners editor wont. It's down side is slower read and write times and no scanner bundled with it. Since I also have HP Tuners I just use the scanner provided with it.

Has decent coverage, is cheaper, but no scanning or logging capability. I am a TC 2 user, and as stated, there are things these tuners will do that EFILive and HPTuners wont do.

TC OBD2 was first and the name was changed when sold to JET. If you were an original purchaser of TC OBD2 you still get support from TC and can still buy new vehicle definitions as TC develops them. Original purchasers are also able to purchase the new TC OBD2 CAN cable. You have to use the JET version of the software with the JET cable. The only way you can still get an original TC OBD2 is if you purchase it with a Moates Roadrunner from Moates. There may be a version you can get through Westers Garage with his diesel stuff, not 100% sure on that.

You can buy diesle VDF's from Lyndon Wester for Tunercat, or buy Westers GMT which is either $3500 or $7200 for all GM vehciles from 1996-2013. Westers has the most GM coverage.
Not sure if Lyndon sells VDF's, diesel or otherwise for Jet DST.
Like you said, you can always get Tunercats Realtime with a Roadrunner, then sell the Roadrunner, or use it.
