Default Install 02 5.3 silverado pcm in 99 5.3 silverado.

Looking to install an 02 5.3 silverado pcm in my 99 5.3 silverado. I have hp tuners and starting to get confident using it. Is there a certain 02 pcm part number i need to look for. The oe# I keep finding is 12200411. Is this the correct pcm i need. Is there anything else on the pcm i need to look for so i know it will work in my truck. Thanks for any advice.

You can flash an 02 Operating System into your 99 PCM. Do you have emission testing where you live????? If so, you will need your 99 VIN in the PCM or it will not pass. (At least it won't where I live) HPTuners does not allow a mismatch of VIN year and Operating System year. So, a 99 VIN has to match a 99 O/S and a 2002 VIN has to match a 2002 O/S. Tunercat and EFILive don't have this restriction.

My problem is my PCM I think is messed up and is a cheap fix for what i need rather then hunting a ghost. But I've been told the 02 pcms are better operating system and less knock issues. So I figure if I'm gonna do it. Then l will do it with what I've heard is a better option. But I just need to know if I can make it work. I can change the vin of the new pcm with hp tuners.

The 01-02 OS has more options. The computer it self has minimal changes. BTW yes that is the correct number for that ECU

I wonder if you could set it up in EFILive first and then tune it with HPT or if it will throw a flag when you read it because the Vin and OS dont match???

The Vin swap and the Segment swap freedoms alone is why I bought EFI Live.

Other wise from a tuning stand point they both accomplish the same basic thing.

Ive done an upgrade with hp tuners to my OS thats provided by hptuners via credits and am happy with the changes. It is very similiar to the 02 pcm OS. So maybe i need to just replace my pcm with another 99 pcm and write the vin so i dont have to deal with all the crap of trying to make an 02 work.
