Default Im lost. TCC issue just developed

Right before I sold ole blu, I had the firse issue Ive had with the truck. I was low on gas, and it started missing. Put a few galons in it to get home, and the converter wouldnt lock up. I know with a misfire stored the converter wont lock, so no biggie. Figured with the ethanol fuel, low fuel level, and me hardley ever driving it, it had some moisture, or trash that caused the misfire.
The day I sold it, I drove it to work to make sure everything worked as it should, and it did. The guy who bought it went on a long (20min or so) test drive and it all worked fine. He paid me and left.
He called later and said that a few miles from my house the alt went out and about 5 miles from his house it started missing. He changed the alt, and went for a test drive, and as he put it "it lost overdrive"
I agreed to drive to Hammond with my laptop and see what we could see, and if we couldnt figure it out, Id buy th etruck back.
Sat, Nick rode with me to drive a vehicle back just in case.
I hooked the lap top up and we went for a ride. I could manually (through hptuners) make the converter lock, but the rpm drop wasnt as much as normal. We got on the interstate, and I manualy (HPtuners) shifted back and forth from 3rd to 4th, and could see a slight rpm drop, but nothing when I commanded the converter to lock.
As we exited the interstate, the fuel light came on, and the truck started missing. We pulled in the station and put some gas in it.
As we left, while he was stopped at the stop sign, I locked the converter. It tried to die but didnt. Someone had done this to me in my white truck, and it stalled out, which makes sense.
I told him I believed the lock up clutch was gone from it locking and unlocking under load due to the miss, or whatever, and offered to split the cost of a factory, or TB converter, or buy the truck back. He accepted a little money.
He called me yesterday, and said he wants to figure the thing out, so he started unplugging "all kind of ****" and found that with the MAF disconnected the truck shifts into OD and the converter locks. So he tried swapping the MAF with another, and the problem is still there.
Im not sure what type of scanner he has, but he says with any more than 6% engine load the converter will not lock with the MAF connected, but with it disconnected it works as it should.
The truck has not been SD tuned so it idles like crap acording to him.

Whats the deal? What should I look into? This is the same tune that has been in there since 9/10, and has never given me any issues. I tried re-flashing the tune, and its still doing this. Where can this engine load be adjusted in relation to the TCC?

ive had a few TC Clutchs go out, but never had a miss issue..

No codes?

did you log TCC Slip RPM?

Thats how i could tell mine was shot, besides the rpms rising when it was locked

When it is supposed to lock, there is no rpm change. I figured TC clutch is shot, but then why is it working with the MAF unplugged? Got me confused. I dont have easy access to run a scan on it.
