So the big difference is a USB update that doesnt matter and an update to the bluetooth standard that no one uses anyway. And the flipped the connector and took out an led. Not really impressed. I wonder what the real reason for the update is...usually when they do a new format/firmware and forced update is because someone figured out how to hack their old interface. Thats why MPVI2 was rushed so much and now why the old mpv1s are worth so much. I assume this update has something to do with the recent EPA overreach.
Speaking of which, my MPVI1 Pro has 4 analog inputs but yet the new ones have 2, plus that expansion hub they have been promising for years is still absent. Back in the day they discreetly got rid of the ability to log the EGR sensor as an input with a custom OS in I assume as a push to get people to buy the Pro over the standard. Ever since that ive been very skeptical of the updates.

When I was looking to buy my device in July 2018 they had just rolled out the MPVI2. Members on HPT forums were complaining about features not being available. I decided to look for the MPVI but all the "Authorized Dealers" had already pulled the old MPVI from stock. Found a new MVPI Pro on e-Bay with 8 Ford credits which are useless to me lol and snapped it right up! I'm staying with the old MPVI until I'm forced to upgrade as I'm sure HPT can remotely brick these devices if they call home.
Kyle (GoatRope) is now a HPT "dealer" but I remember around last year on one of his live Youtube videos saying along the lines "hold on to the MPVI if you still have them their like gold, the new MPVI2 sucks". I asked him about that statement and if it still rings true with the new MPVI2+ release. I also mentioned about HPT disabling the emission tables on future software updates...

Also someone posted on one of the car forums to not update the software because HP Tuners has/is removing all the emission tables?

Apparently the MPVI2 was fully cracked by someone in Saudi Arabia named mmoqry.
Wonder if I can get in contact with this fellow for some diesel tuning. The money to be had there is just stupid, but I guess so are the fines lol

It is a fact HPTuners removed the ability to modify emissions stuff on diesels somewhere around the 3.5-4.0 software/firmware update. This is why the old ones with early firmware sell for a stupid amount of money. This is a big problem for diesel swapped stuff in non-EPA countries, boats in south america for instance. There is a guy on facebook that can reset the firmware, which is not illegal, but is obviously not easy or encouraged by HPT. I see where they are coming from since the EPA is cracking down, but it still sucks having features removed.
I would be interested in seeing how many features are removed with this update vs how many useless features were added.
I am a dealer for hptuners as well and got their announcement email a couple of weeks ago and had the same thought then ,"well I guess someone cracked it so time for a hardware update". I still use my MPVI-1 and have no plans to use the new one.

I thought that they got rid of it with software update 2.3? I don't know about the firmware, I guess you'd have to buy an MPVI-1 first, flash it, then find the software. Like I said before I found the 2.2 version on piratebay but I'm too much of a ***** to download it plus I don't have the right equipment

Your post reinforces my decision of not "upgrading" my MPVI-1... once in a while I'll get something right lol
Naw I wouldn't try it they can brick your device when it calls home.
I got some missinformation from Bill a HPT employee that works their forums about changing the VIN and lost two credits. He told me something along the lines that he can't know every scenario. I wasn't happy and stopped payment on those two credits. HP Tuners e-mailed me and threatened to disable my device if I didn't pay up. I sent them the misinformation post from Bill and they let it go. They also reinstated those lost credits so I came out even. HP Tuners NEVER refunds lost credits but this was their fault.

I need for you to cancel the chargeback for this order or request that an invoice be sent to you for repayment. You can request the invoice by my emailing me at pat@hptuners.com. Until this is resolved I will disable your ability to purchase credits on this device. I look forward to rectifying this situation with you.
Thank You!Pat Canty

They have incrementally removed features as time goes on, but yea the early 2.x versions are the most capable as far as emissions stuff goes. They have access to it, just leave it out so the EPA doesnt eat them alive. Cant say I blame them from their perspective.
Firmware is non-reversible without some hardware changes, aka, you have to send it to the facebook guy for him to unbrick it or downgrade it back to an earlier version. On one of the 4.x versions it forced a firmware update as soon as you connected, didnt ask for permission. A lot of tuner shops have a dedicated machine running early 2.x software and original interface that never touches the internet or gets updated just to do diesel stuff.

That is why I have thought about turning my laptop off the internet completely. Scummy practice to auto update imo
My girl's dad constantly asks about tuning diesels and I just keep saying it is impossible. I keep looking into it though because maybe one day I will find something lovely and charge some kids to get a smoke tune

The guy from facebook also has a few youtube video's on the topic. He basically said that when the MPVI2 came out it's was like cash for clunkers, they wanted to wipe out all MPVI's from the world so they can push the new firmware and software.
I'm on 4.6 or 4.8 and have zero plans to go update ever again on my MPVI. I can use all the features I need with that.
