Default HP Tuner for Christmas

First post I have been on gm-trucks.com for years but this is my first trip here.
I have an 07 1500HD 4x4 with a 6.0L and I put new tires and wheels on if last year but of course the speedo and mileage is off. I am **** so this bugs me. I mentioned to wife I wanted to fix it but the dealer wants $150- $200 and 2 hours to "reprogram the computer" I told her for that I should invest in a tuner. She talks to one of my friends (camaro guy) about one and he tells her to buy an HP tuner. The standard edition shows up under the tree. I think i'll keep the wife but she has no idea what can of worms she has opened.

Now I am doing a lot of reading since I have the ability to do a lot more than change tire size. Looking at the HP tuners tune repository I only see one non stock tune for my truck so I am trying to see where to get started. I am reading various forms trying to keep from starting at ground zero.

Can anybody share what they have done with their truck or any suggestions on how to start?

go into the tuning section, and check out the sticky's in there. start with the simple stuff first.. change the tire size. Learn to make a good log, basically learn the Program first, then play with the tuning.... I'd say stat with your stock tune and compare it to the one you down loaded... using the compare feature see what has been changed BEFORE you flash it...

that's ok I moved it here for you. Dusty is right, you have much reading to do. Start slow and save your stock .bin file so you can always go back. Enjoy the site, you are in the right place.

Like what was mentioned above, LOTS of reading! Really get yourself familiar with the scanner part of the program and what all the PIDs mean and learning the histograms, etc....

Go slow and take your time and check out hptuners forum because their is TONS of very good info over there.
