Help with HpTuners purchase please...
#1
Ok, here's the scenario. I need hptuners badly because my regency has a tune it in, and the tune sucks big *****'s. 1st gear hangs up sometimes at part throttle, and then slams into gear. with 400 miles on the truck this blows. There's no torque management or nothing, so i know it's the tune, you can tell these guys messed around in there. Usually these trucks are 4.8 5 spds, so i'm guessing since in 07 you can't get a manual v8, regency isn't used to tuning automatics.
So there's vehicle number one that needs tuning. Vehicle two is my buddies 07 classic that came with a v6. he's in the midst of doing a v8 swap. The computer in his truck, for some reason says it's a v8 truck. But we've yet to figure out if he'll have to do a computer swap. The engine he bought is an 02 with a return style fuel system. He want's to retain that, so when he goes boosted, he'll be able to have a boost referenced inline boost pump. So we're not sure if we should buy the full 07 liscense, or if i should just buy a vin specific for mine, and then when we figure out what year computer he's gonna use, buy one for that vin too.
Third vehicle is my fathers. he's got an 68 gmc that he's putting an 05 5.3 in, with returnless system, and fly by wire. we have the entire wiring harness and pedals, etc... as well as pcm, so i'll definatly need to tune this when it gets installed too.
so those are the three vehicles i need to tune. I want input on whether i should try to buy a used version of hptuners. I'm not too familiar with the pricing plans, i know older hptuners setups priced plans differently. I was wondering if anyone familiar with hptuners can help me out, and tell me which way to go. I know if i go with the new pricing plan, my best bet is to just go vin specific for now. I was hoping to have options to tune other people's vehicles too. Is it cheaper to buy a year liscense, with the old plan? i'm all discombobulated(sp) with all this. All i know is i need to tune my regency immediatly, and i'm ready to shoot the money gun, i just don't know how to load it!!!! help!!!
thanks guys.
p.s. if i gotta go new, anyone got a hookup at hptuners?

Upon inital purchase of HPTuners, you get 8 credits to use as you feel necessary. For your scenario, I would use 2 credits for each vehicle ... this leaves you with two remaining for use how ever you wish. Is you truck an '07 like your buddy's? If so, you could just reflash his computer with your bin file (if it is confirmed to be a V6 operating system). The year model would cost you 12 credits, you will not be able to tune any other vehicles besides 2007 V8s, plus you would need to purchase 4 extra credits upon your purchase. Go with VIN locked, you can always add credits down the road. And I highly recommend getting the Ehanced (or PRO) version. This allows you to log a wideband, if you choose to purchase one in the future (makes fuel tuning much easier).
