Default Considering Buying Hptuners Program

I am considering purchasing hptuners program. I have been doing some research on both hp and efi and it looks like from what Im seeing hp is the easier program to use (as Im new to programing) I think easier is better. My question is....you can buy the efi kit with the wide band o2 but I dont see where or if hp can be purchased with a WB O2... is it available with the O2 or not and if not where can one be purchased?
This whole credit thing with hp is somewhat confusing though I think from what I can see it takes 2 credits to program 1 vehicle is that correct? and that you get a total of 8 credits with the purchase of the program s you could do a max of 4 gen 3 based vehicles?

Thanks for the help

Dave

Both programs do the exact same thing. Neither one is easier or more difficult than the other. It really comes down to which layout and navigation format you like better. If you've looked at both and feel more comfortable with HPT, then you're on the right track.

I cant say that I am more comfortable with one over the other, it is just from what I see more guys seem to recomemd hp over efi. As I said I have never tuned before ad am totally new to this so I would like the easiest to use. Im also not to computer literate either.....but I try LOL.
1 other thing the only mod Im looking to do (hence the need for a tune) is Pacesetter long tubes in the spring. I allready have cold air inake and cat back possible true duels in the spring aswell.

Thanks for the quick responce Thunder 550

You could probably contact synergy motorsports or Nelson performance to see if they sell wideband kits and maybe can make you a deal as they are both resellers of hptuners.

As far as the credits go yes 8 credits will allow you to tune up to 4 gen 3 cars or trucks.

Well if you don't have a preference on the layout, I'd take a peek at the HPT forums and the EFILive forums. Both have a tremensous amount of knowledge available from the members. I've used both HPT and EFILive and I personally like EFILive better, but again, it's really personal preference. Also, do a comparison on pricing and the number of vehciles and extras you get without having to spend additional $$. I think I remember reading that the enhanced I/O needed to interface HPT with a wideband is extra $$, and you have to burn credits to change to a custom operating system if you ever want to run a SD tune or something like that. I could be wrong though.

the upgrade to HPT Pro is well worth the money. Upgrading to the "custom" OS's just make it easier to do either an enhanced MAF or SD tune. You can tune the MAF and tune SD without upgrading your OS. Also a nice upgrade is the real time tuning for the supported year/models. It's not available yet for my specific '06 PCM, but for the vehicles its supported on it's badass.

I've seen and played around with EFI and it's great software, but my preference is HPT. Like thunder said, it's mostly what you feel like you'll be comfortable with. I would like to note that the HPTForums has some VERY helpful people on there. I don't know anything about the EFI forums, but there are plenty of people out there and even on this board that are glad to help you get going on using the software. There's a lot of tips/tricks you can pickup just by browsing the forum and even just asking people. 5_Liter_Eater over on HPTForums helped me out a TON when I first started tuning with HPT.

anyways, just do a little more research and find out what you like. HPtuners is what I recommend

Yeah, the only reason I brought that up is that you don't have to pay any extra with EFILive to be able to interface a wideband or to use the custom OS. They may come out to about the same though either way, I haven't looked at pricing in a long time so I don't really know.

Anyway, bottom line to the OP is that they are both great packages, they both have large support networks (the EFILive forums are a great place for help too), and they both have almost the same features. It really is personal preference. If you feel more comfortable with HPT, then that's probably what you should go with.

Thanks for all the imput guys. I have downloaded and looked over the efi program (the demo program) and in all honesty it looks very confusing to me, now I havent played with it much yet so that confusion may go away with a bit of playing, I hope LOL.
I have looked at the stock tune for my truck (2000 silverado 5.3) and in all honesty I dont have a clue as to where to start with it.
Is there a way to download hp tuners in the same way as efi so I can look over their program aswell?

Thanks

Dave

You can download all of our demo's here https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...46&postcount=9 which basically runs you through many of the features our program offers.

You can also view the comparison here http://mysite.verizon.net/whenn1//HPTvsV2.pdf

OK now that I have looked over (somewhat) the HP demos Im thinking that maybe it is easier to use that efi is, I may be wrong though.
Anothr question for you regarding price it looks like efi is slightly more than hp. Would I actually need the pro version of hp or is just the standard OK Im only looking at working on my own truck with bolt on mods only (well for now anyways) and what is the difference between standard and pro?

OH YA and what about the cost of a wb o2?

thanks Dave
