Default BlackBear tune for engine only, benefits?

i want to get my truck tuned badly. im tired of 16 mpg. The transmission is a GM 4l60e and i dont want to void the warranty so all transmission related tuning cant be done. by just tuning the engine what benefits are possible?

2001 silverado 1500 4x4 5.3l. 150K doesnt burn oil. rebuilt transfer case, new tires all the way around. i have an electric fan installed. i drive 100miles a day all highway. i would like to see better then 16mpg.

Like i said, what benefits could i possibly see by tuning just the engine?
thanks.

Drive like there's an egg on the gas pedal, don't use cruise control, put a bed cover on it, keep it clean, keep it under 2000rpm. You can also try some zmax, both gas tank and crank case. Coast down hill, get into the throttle real easy on the uphill, coast as much as possible on off ramps, coming up to stop lights, etc..

Others will have to give you the specifics on the tuning.

The recent interstate speed limit change to 75 in KS might be nice to get there a little quicker but it didn't help anybody's gas mileage.

My 6.2 gets it's best mileage between 75-80 not that I give a damm bout gas mileage. It's all about getting the motor into it's happy range and then letting it run there.

FWIW if it's a SRTA tranny and it fails on a truck that old we arent looking for a tune. If it were a 2011 totally different story.

You probably should get something more gas friendly. I can get 19MPG but mines 2WD. The added rotational weight is killing your mileage. You might gain 1 or possibly 2 MPG with a full tune. It will certainly run better with a tune.
