Default Bipolar 4X4 selector?

This has been going on for some time now and becoming more frequent. My 2003 Z71 with electronic transfer case is in a different selection or says neutral every other time I start my truck. I can have it in 2HI and jump in truck and it's in 4Lo. Or have 4 HI selected ready to race someone for a grand and pull up to the line and it's automatically shifted it's self into 2 HI and the little red neutral light will be all that will light up. I try and select 4HI and it will just blink all the lights at me then go back to red neutral light. Wait an hr and then it will go into 4HI. Not sure what is going on but it almost cost me BIG $$$ Any suggestions appreciated!

I had an issue with a selector switch once in a 99 truck. Apparently the solder used in them was not great. I read somewhere to resolder everything to fix it. I removed it and there is a small board on the back. I soldered every connection again, and never had another issue again with that truck. I had it for years after that. Hope that helps.

It's most likely the selector switch acting up. See if you can swap a known good one in and see if it still does it.

Yea I wish this thing was manual. Always been leery of the push button 4x4 deal. I used to always just leave it in 4x4 when racing with $ on the line because I was afraid it would jam or something.. But now the ****** will disengage it's self. Wonder if switch from my 2006 tahoe is same?

I would think it should be the same. Only one way to find out!
