Question Best Tuner for my $

Hey guys. I will maybe be inheriting an 06' crew cab 1500 with I believe the 4.8. I dont think it has onstar and the truck has 770miles give or take. Truth is it has the extended warranty, and although that is good, is it bad too? The guy at the dealership told me that so long as it's under warranty you cannot modify it one bit. Drop kit, welded OR bolt on exhaust will all void the warranty.

So, I figure a tune will always be good, and if the truck has problems I can reload stock tuning and bring it in for service. I've owned two other trucks both a rcsb/4.3/auto and a rclb/4.3/auto. They both had hypertechIII programmers and worked awesomely. But for 400bucks I expect more. I've seen wait4me's that are what, 200? And I can keep my factory pcm to swap out with if I gotta have service done to it.

I have a new dell laptop and was wondering, does anyone make a tuner that I can plug my laptop into my truck and tune like that WITHOUT going into standalone? So, what is EFIlive, LS1edit? Im interested in learning all there is about these trucks so I don't buy something not worth my money.

I've read alot of threads about tuners and it seems that HPTuners and EFIlive is at the top. I plan to keep the truck forever hopefully, and I will be tuning. After warranty it's getting a Radix, so I want to be able to retune for the blower, or a cam, or headers, or catconverter delete.

Please lend your thoughts and opinions on to the tuning world of the LSX motors.

First of all your dealer is full of . You can have warrenty work performed at any quality repair center also.
I believe it is Federal law that states the warrenty is valid unless the defect is caused directly or indirectly from the modification.
If you do a lift and the A/C goes out they MUST repair it per law but if you do a lift and your front end is wack then it's on you bud!

As far as tunes go you can check with the sponsors to the right or go for the tuning programs like you mentioned (also HP tuners) if you want to learn how to do it, your best investment.

hptuners has one of the lower intro prices for a full on tuning suite starting at $499 and you can tune up to 4 different types/models of vehicles using the vin locking license procedure. Jesse's pcm's are hard to beat for the price though or you could just use it as a starting point if you'd like as well.

my W4M tune was $75 plus shipping. For the money, its probably the best one. I know Nelson has a very good tune he does too if you think about going the mail order route and honestly, I think he may be a little better tuner simply because of experience. Either one will get you good gains and custom parameters that you can specify. As always, tuning yourself has its advantages. I would love to be able to tune mine myself, I just dont have the green for the laptop and software quite yet. as you probably know, the LSX motors respond very well to tuning changes and simple bolt ons.... dont frown upon the truck just because it has a 4.8 (for now) the engine upgrades and f/i setups yield great results.... good luck with it and keep us all informed on what happens and how it goes.

Cool. So, who has the software with a starters guide for laptop plug in play? I know parish has megasquirt but doesnt he run LS1 edit? Isnt that a laptop editable program? That's what Im really after, I just don't want to plug in my laptop adjust something wrong and **** it up. So, shouldn't it come with a starter a/f,timing maps to work off of?

Ill check out HPT, Diablo, Nelson, and W4Me just so I can see what's out there. I have plenty of time and money, so I want the best that my cash can buy. Thanks guys.
