My '04 4.7 had 78,000 miles on it and started overheating and i did the same thing. i replaced EVERYTHING except the radiator. i could see the water circulating when I took the cap off of it. But the orange antifreeze that was in it turned to concrete in the lower banks of the radiator and only the top half of it was working. i had to buy a new one because the gunk in the bottom was so hard that the radiator shop couldnt rod it out . I would definitely check that out. It caused me to blow my head gaskets. The 4.7s blow them very easily so be careful.
