Default Trailer problem, cant release hitch...

Luckily I have a small fleet of elderly cars, but anyway, my suburban ball hitch is stuck in my trailer. I am able to lift the latch to vertical, but the ball wont come out of the receiver or whatever you call it. If I jack up the tongue it will raise the vehicle then bend the hitch, I don't want to know what it does if I keep jacking. Any advice what my problem might be?

Have you tried giving it a good kick? My little 5x10 will do that sometimes, especially if I haven't greased it in a while.

I tried lightly with a sledge hammer. I think that's how I got it the other recent time too, not sure. THing is, I just bought the trailer, used it twice, stuck twice. SO it has me wondering if Im' doing something wrong.

The truck & trailer are exerting pressure towards each other, and that makes the ball on your hitch put pressure on the trailer coupler, so it won't let go.

Do this: Chock front & back of the trailer tires on the left & right sides. Leave the coupler latch "up". Put your truck in drive and just barely move forward. You want to put the ball in the front of the coupler, away from the coupler's latch. Set your parking brake before you put the truck in park. That should get the coupler latch to drop down, so the trailer coupler will come off the ball. Now you can jack up the tongue.

Once it's disconnected, lube the coupler with some penetrating oil, to help with future use.

Thanks, that sounds like sort of what I did last time but I wasn't sure by memory. ALso I disconnected my pbrake because it was rubbing, but I'll chock the trailer wheels and go forward a bit, that should work I think. THanks for the advice, I'll let you know. THis trailer has been great, so far I've used it to pick up cheap deals on a snowblower, outdoor cedar swing, and this time it's for a beat up but running $500 86 XR600R
