taking a Gas Tungsten Arc(TIG) Welding class
#1
starting next week I will finally be taking a TIG welding class 4 nights a week, woohoo!
I'm sooo stoked

TIG Welding Benefits
Superior quality welds
Welds can be made with or without filler metal
Precise control of welding variables (heat)
Free of spatter
Low distortion

damn I want to do this....no classes near me.
I may pick up a MIG someday and just start learning.

TIG is my favorite type of welding, but I kinda suck at it. I mean I get paid to do it, but I'm about the worst TIG welder in our shop.
I'm pretty good at MIG welding. And I've been known to burn an electrode, too.
It seems as though, there are very few welders who can stick weld, these days.
Where I work, we do very little mild steel welding. It's about 88% SS, 10% Aluminum and 2% mild steel, so an ability to TIG (even as poor as mine) is a must.
Have fun with it. And take your time. Most folks need plenty of practice.

TIG welding is the nicest , cleanest welding work . I'm a cert. stick welder but need to brush up tig skills. A good machine though can make life a lot easier. At our union hall we use Miller.
