Just curious to know how many of you guys are interested in Anchient Sumeria?

For those who don't know the Sumerians created the first form of writing, Mathematics, Astronomy, science, the wheel and many more.

They accurately discovered that there are 9 planets in the solar system and all of them are round and orbit the sun.
Our astronomers thought there were only 8 planets in the solar system until they discovered Pluto in 1930. How amazing is that?

They also wrote about DNA splicing and created the double helix. The symbol we use today for hospitals/medicine that represents DNA.

All from a civilization that lived over 6000 years ago!

Just curious to know who else is amazed by this and what your thoughts are.

Strange topic on the truck forum but yea!, I love ancient history and know that as time passes we (civilization) get stupider.

 

Yea. I've been reading into it more and more. It blows my mind how accurately they depicted all of this stuff that it took our scientists hundreds of years to discover.

pluto is not considered a planet anymore. thats crazy how they could do that stuff so long ago.

 

How about Uranus?

I still remember my 7th grade Science class. We were reading about the planets out of our textbook and I drew Uranus so I had to read the section out loud to the entire class. I sh*t you not the first sentence was, 'Uranus is large and gaseous.' Needless to say, after the ensuing laughter and the inability for my 7th grade mind to regain my composure I got into trouble. I'll never forget it, though.

 

Never knew of dem folks before, but ya, sounds badass. I'm always astounded about how civilizations thousands of years ago were so advanced. Like how the Egyptian pyramids, Stonehenge, and the Nazca lines all correspond with the constellations.

 

You know what I am curious about? How do we know so much about a civilization that lived almost 6,000 years ago?

 

Archeology. Many ways from structures, artifacts, remains.

 

exactly. We dig in the dirt and find the stuff they left behind. Cuneiform writings, drawings, pottery, tools. then its just up to figuring out what the stuff means. We have the technology to study artifacts and tell how old they are.
Soil samples tell changes in climate so you can tell what environment they lived in and so forth.
The fact that they had drawn pictures of this stuff is just amazing considering they didn't have telescopes.
