the prop shaft is direct drive from the engine, you can see it in a couple of pics where it comes out of the engine and exits the boat. 100rpm...wtf is that? How the hell does an engine run at 100 rpm?

kinda like a honda idles above 1000 wherease a 5.3L idles around 500 and a diesel idles around 300

I love how it all comes down to piston speed, the longer the stroke the faster that bitch goes at a lower RPM

No, it's a commercial ship althouh it may, or may not carry military cargo. It's a "container" ship and carries whatever is loaded in individual containers. The containers are carried as trailers on trucks and then transported at sea like that, then go back on a truck. Stereos, IPODS, Phones, TV's, fish, produce, you name it.

Julien is Navigation officer, one of 8 officers onboard ship with a 22 man crew iirc.

pretty awesome pics Bill. Theres some oil wells out in NW oklahoma i work on that right by some train tracks and they transport are these containers.. they are haullin butt when they go by.. one goes by each direction every 10-15 mins..
