I have an iphone 4 after having a 3G for two years, adn have had the 4 for little over half a year. The iphone 4 is definitely the phone to have in my opinion.
Only trouble ive had was the first one i bought kept completely dying overnight and not functioning at all, but the folks at the apple store just handed me a different one when I brought it in, no questions asked.
I'd suggest it, but I'd also recommend a otterbox or something of the like, the back is made of glass and is easily crackable
And if you get one, to fully enjoy it you might want to look around online for little things that make life easier, such as button combos or whatnot, to help you get you where you want quicker
Just my .02

Im getting the iphone 4 here soon also. Think Im going to stay with AT&T though. There plan is cheaper and you can link it to you laptop wherever your at and get internet service. The guy at verizon said its another $25 to do that with there phones.

ive had every version of the iphone. when i went to get my latest phone i was gunning for the droid. the droid was sitting next to the iphone 4 in the store so i got to grab one in each hand. long story short, i ended up leaving with the iphone4.

iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4 owner. Love it and probably don't see myself going with any other phone. I don't see what the terrible need to jailbreak them is either. My phone does everything I need it to do when it comes to multi tasking.
Speaking of which John, I know someone mentioned it before but with Verizon you can't be on the internet while someone's calling you. It's one or the other. You can't use Google maps while driving and talk with someone at the same time. I do that all the time and am not going over to verizon for that reason. And also verizon rapes people with their monthly plans.
