Default Should I take a new job for a $20K sign on bonus?

I'm a pharmacist and yesterday I was offered $20,000 to sign a 2 year contract with a different chain. I would get the money up front and have to stay at that chain/store for 2 years. Here are my concerns:

the new job pays $5/hr less and works 1 less hour per 2 week pay cycle. That works out to be over $12,000/yr less at the new job. They claim to be getting a raise soon but who knows. BUT, new job pays time+1/2 for OT. Current job is regular pay plus $6/hr. which works out to be time+1/10th.

current job is 12hr days(3 one week, 4 the next). New job is 10hr days. 4 days every week. current job is 8am-8pm, new job is either 8am-6pm OR 2pm-10pm.

Also, I currently work on the campus of UNH. Most of my customers are either professors or college kids. Relatively easy to deal with. The new job is in the ghetto, lol. Mostly NH medicaid. Basically dealling with douchebags all day.

So the big question is, is it worth the instant $20,000($13,000 after taxes)?
I currently owe $27,000 on my credit card and still owe a few grand to W2W.

This is the first time i've typed out the difference between the 2 jobs and after reading this a few times i'm thinking screw the bonus, not worth it.

Thoughts?

Looks like you know the answer. Doesn't look like the bonus is worth the hassle and if you are happy where you are at now that is worth a lot more than money.

Sound like you already know what you should do. You might consider using the offer to get your current employer to give you a rise to "keep" you though.

my ex-girlfriend was a pharmacist and she made 60.00 an hour with Kaiser, she got 5.00 an hour raise each year and if she worked grave yard shift there was a 10.00 an hour shift premium.
she also could have gotten a 20,000.00 dollar signing bonus to work at any Walgreens
pharmacist's make good money but have to go through a lot of schooling and have peoples lives in there hands, they just don't push pills, they have to catch Doctor's mistakes all the time. Of course Doctors think they are to good to make mistakes.

I say do what ever makes you happy,
Mark

Great Googly Moogly Batman! I did not realize that profession was compensated at such a rate. No wonder insurance premiums are so high (I know this is just a tiny fraction of costs but put into perspective of the entire industry with anesthesiologists making $300+ an hour at my local hospital ) That is all. I do appreciate knowing that not just anyone can dole out meds that might be incorrect.

i'm confused. You went postal on your room mate because your doc gave you the wrong prescription? That sounds like a whole different issue cuz taking penicillin when your allergic to it doesn't make you crazy, It makes you sick.
