Shipping my truck out of the country?
Anyone ever done this? I'm trying to get my truck to a show in St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, but I'm being told that customs is going to be a bitch because I don't have the title in my hands. Evidently the title has to go on the ship along w/ the truck, and since I don't have that there's a lot of paperwork that has to be done.
Has anyone ever done anything like this? What does it take to transport a vehicle out of the country when you aren't the lein holder?

hmmmm
not to worry you
But I work at the Port of Houston, and I wouldnt let them yahoos( the ones that load the cars, and trucks onto the car ships), get with-in 30ft of my truck..
If you could I would put some kind of limiter on there to keep , any curious minds from doing anything..

Trust me Daniel, I was worried too. The way it works is I drive the truck to Miami and I put it in a container, and I strap it down and secure it. The container is locked and tagged and I get a reciept of some kind showing that my truck is onboard. It's fully insured while traveling. Then, I have to give my title and keys to the shipping company. They load it, ship it to the Virgin Islands, and then unload it. I open the container and unstrap the truck and drive it out. Sounds pretty fool proof to me, unless something happens to the ship while it's at sea or they drop the friggin' container loading it on the ship.

Those containers get rocked off those ships more than you think, or so I've heard.....better hope there are no hurricanes coming through when your truck is shipping out.

and they are pretty harsh when unloading, and loading them too..
the operators dont know whats in them...
they are paid by the container sometimes, and the faster they get done the more ships they can work else where..
but that does seem better than I have seem them do here.
If you dont mind whats it cost to ship ???
Just curious..
you can Pm me if you want..

I'm assuming the military is transferring you to St. Thomas... What will you be doing? Recruiting??? I almost tried to get those orders a few years ago but then I thought... Who in the hell in their right mind would leave St. Thomas to join the Navy?
