Manhattan and LA both dwarf Houston in terms of tourism dollars (#1 and #4). Houston doesn't even show up in the top 10 per the Business Journal in 2008: http://www.bizjournals.com/seattle/s...28/daily8.html
Don't get me wrong, I would love to have one of the Shuttles in Houston and believe that the city deserves it for its contribution to the space program, but it's not a charity, it's a business and the fact of the matter is, Houston does not generate the tourism dollars of LA or NYC.

Ummm sugar ****, Houston has one of the biggest metroplexes in the US, not to mention DFW is only a couple hours away as is Austin and San Antonio. Besides the actual population that Houston has surrounding it, Houston is where everything was done for the damn space station.
:I agree about Houston having done more for the space program than most of the other sites.

How do you figure Houston would equal if not surpass total revenue of LA?

There is no questions asked that the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force met and exceeded all criteria set forth by NASA(stated by NASA). Receiving the shuttles should not be about revenue generated by tourist (both future and past). It should be about preserving the shuttles and making them easily accessible to the general public (NATIONAL CITIZENS).
Not sure if people are even familiar with the National Museum of the U.S Air Force. It's basically connected to Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
Information about the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force
-61 percent of Americans are within a days trip of the location
-Houses more then 360 aerospace vehicles and missiles
-Climate controlled facilities
-Opened in 1922 making it the oldest military aviation museum in the world
-History of restoring artifacts since 1940
-O and it's FREE

I was actually referring to why the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force wasn't picked seeing that it's in Dayton Ohio.
